The Bihar Public Service commission came into continuation from April 1 1949 after it was separated from commission from the states of Orissa and Madhya Pradesh, in accordance with Sub-Section(1) of section 261 of the Government Act 1935. Its constitutional status was noticeable with the promulgation of Constitution of India on 26 January 1950.
The Bihar Public Service Commission had started its functioning for the state of Bihar with their Headquarters at Ranchi. The Bihar Government had shifted the commission headquarters from Ranchi to Patna 1 March 1951. The first Chairman of the BPSC was Shri Rajandhari Sinha and the First Secretary was Shri Radha Krishna Chaudhary.
